Why Are We Handing Out Free Gospels of John?

Several of us, along with our pastor, are carrying these gospels of John around with us so that we can be reading it again and again in preparation for the sermon series on John beginning in August of 2009.
How We Preach the Scriptures
Expository preaching through books of the Bible is a core commitment of our congregation. Teaching straight through books of the Bible is a way of "lashing ourselves to the mast" of the Scriptures and resisting the temptation to speak again and again on just a few favorite subjects. We ask the Lord to set the agenda for our church as we move verse by verse through his Word.
The Good News
Straight from the Scriptures, we proclaim to all the good news that Jesus Christ has suffered on the cross the punishment that our sins deserve so that we can be forgiven and set free. The righteousness that God demands from you, he now offers freely to you in Jesus Christ. If you trust in this Christ who died for sins and rose again from the dead, you will be declared righteous. Not having a righteousness of our own, but having received the righteousness that comes from God through faith in Jesus Christ, we may boldly draw near to the throne of grace to receive mercy and help in our time of need.
About Our Church
If you come and visit our congregation of almost 200 people, including university students and faculty, young families, and a handful of wise and beloved seniors, expect a no-nonsense commitment to the Word of God and the worship of God. Meeting in the Judah Christian School gymnasium, we lack some of the creature comforts of other congregations. But as a result, we are able to spend twice as much on missions as we do on facilities. If you are hungering for the word of God, we hope that you will conclude that you have found a gem in a gym.
