I would like to invite you over to my place to scrapbook or do other crafty paper things next Saturday, August 23 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Bring your own paper and supplies you’ll need-- and feel free to bring tools to share!

I hope that this can be a great time of fellowship and fun with paper. Here is my last call to ask for Sunday school teachers for the 2008-2009 school year, since the start date for classes is Sept. 7th.  I am so thankful for the response that has come, and have most of the teachers that are needed now.  However, we have had to combine some age groups, making one class very large.  And we have also had to forego having a class for our 3 year olds.  So, if you have been praying, thinking about, and waiting to respond to this need....now is the time to do it!  I would especially appreciate having at least one more woman teacher.

For the Olympics in particular, I continue to pray that

--China will respond with restraint if there are situations that challenge their authority

--the Games will go well and result in less of a national inferiority complex for all China’s peoples, including the Christians there, with the ultimate hope being that the Church will share the message of identity found in Jesus Christ

--that outreach ministries during the Games will be done in wisdom yet with the Spirit’s power

--that local Christians will be protected during this unusually sensitive times, especially those working in outreach during the Games

And always…

--that local believers will be strengthened by fellowship and sound doctrine

--that both the practical and spiritual needs of the millions of people affected by the earthquake will be met

WHAT: Playing softball & just hanging out
WHEN:  5:30 until ????, Saturday August 2nd
WHERE:  Adam & Regina Johnson’s front yard (directions are below)
WHY:  1. Just for fun 2.  For Regina’s birthday 3.  For a chance to connect Regina’s catholic cousins to our CEFC family
WHO:  Everyone* is welcome.  I’m inviting my (Regina’s) family, as well, so hopfully we’ll have enough for a real game of softball!

*By ‘’everyone” I mean grown-ups & kids, softball players and non-softball-players.  For example, Regina has never played softball in her life, and she is going to play.  But if you come, you don’t HAVE to play; you can just come & hang out.  You can bring your kids, or you can not.  You can bring friends, or you can not.

OTHER STUFF & WHAT TO BRING:
We will NOT be serving a meal.  So bring your own picnic dinner or bag of McD’s, if you like.  We WILL be serving drinks (at least water!) & birthday cake, and likely some snack-y things.  Bring lawn chairs or a picnic blanket to sit on.  Bring your balls, gloves, bats if you have them. There *may* be water sprinklers on for the kids, so bring something appropriate.  Bring bug repellent---the beasts are ferocious out here!

Directions to Adam & Regina Johnson’s house:
748 CR 250 N, Pesotum
Depending on where you are in C-U, you can expect it to take 20 to 30 minutes to get to our place.

First, get to Pesotum.  Either take I-57 south to exit 220 and turn left (north) onto Hwy 45, OR take Hwy 45 (Neil St.) south from Champaign/Savoy through Tolono into Pesotum.  Once in Pesotum, turn West onto Adams St. (between Washington and Lincoln).  Follow Adams Street (which zig-zags to the south briefly, goes over I-57, and becomes CR250) 2.6 miles to our house:  748 CR 250N.  The house is on the north side of the road. It is a 1 1/2 story white house with a big garage with brown doors.

OR:  A more direct route is to exit I-57 at Monticello road, head west for about 1.5 miles and then turn south onto CR 700E.  Follow 700E south as far as you can go (7.5 miles), until the road ends at at “T”.  Turn left (east) and we’re the first house on the left.  I will warn you that the corn is getting high, so please slow down at the intersections---most do not have stop signs from any direction.

The end of the fiscal year is approaching.  I am requesting that anyone who needs to be reimbursed give me the paperwork as soon as possible.

This Sunday David Byle (missionary in Istanbul) and his family will be with us and they are in need of a place to stay Saturday night.  They have four children (who are willing to sleep on the floor, they say they can even all fit in one room if necessary) and they will be arriving late (10 or 11pm).

We offered them a hotel, but they prefer staying with believers.  If you would be willing to host them, please let me know.

I have a few things that I need to get out of our garage, so before I donate or Freecycle them, I’ll see if anyone at CEFC can use them.

• Small desk - 17x35x30h
• 5 drawer dresser - bottom drawer needs repair - or make it a 4 drawer dresser!
• 4 drawer metal file cabinet - (may be spoken for)
• Retro diner chair - needs help
• 2 Fisher Price high chairs in good shape - six height positions
• 1 double stroller which will fit two car seats - pretty big, even when folded
• 2 lamps - one needs new socket
• Bicycle exercise stand
• Keyboard - midi output doesn’t work
• Cooking Light and Food and Wine magazines 2005/6
• Fireplace - 1960’s wall hung metal, with gas insert (can be used without) - no photo yet
